The Data-led Pro

The Data-led Pro
By Arpit Choudhury • Issue #1 • View online
The Data-led Pro is a culmination of everything I have learnt in my career and all the content I have created since launching Data-led Academy last year.
And since I value time over everything else, I can promise you this: I will only share the best content on the topics I cover, making it worth every minute you spend reading this newsletter.

Data Democratization
Someone recently asked me what my motivation was behind Data-led Academy and this was my answer:
My main motivation was the fact that there was (and still is) little to no educational content for non-technical/semi-technical folks to learn about data to improve their everyday work. Data is no longer something that only technical people can benefit from, and it should be made accessible to everybody in an organization, irrespective of their technical chops.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that the democratization of data has been the impetus behind Data-led Academy!
I’m quoting a part of our mission statement here:
We hope to contribute to a much-needed cultural shift where those who don’t identify themselves as scientists or analysts can still use “Data” in their designations! Besides Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts, the world also needs Data Specialists, Data Consultants, Data Interns, Data Managers, and so on.
However, it’s not just about data-specific designations – heck, designations mean nothing today!
The bottom line is that data should be made available in the right shape and format, to every team, in the tools they use every day.
I recently wrote a piece that was featured in the Data For Change column of the TDS publication on Medium – it answers these four questions:
  1. What is data democratization?
  2. How to make employees feel comfortable asking data-related questions?
  3. How to choose the right tools to enable everybody to work with data?
  4. Why is data democratization an ongoing process that might require a cultural shift in your organization?

That’s not all.
I also just launched The Data-led Professional podcast with my co-host, Claudiu Murariu, the founder of InnerTrends.
And today we released the second episode – no points for guessing what it’s about! 👇
Data democratization: What it really is and how it impacts team alignment
You can click above to tune in or find the podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
I would love to hear your thoughts on data democratization (or any other thoughts triggered from reading this issue).
Before wrapping up, I’d like to mention that I sincerely hope that this newsletter helps you ask more questions – questions about tools, technologies, people, processes, or anything else related to data.
I can’t wait to answer them, so don’t forget to send them my way via Twitter or LinkedIn.
Thanks for reading! 🙏
